Dr. Francis Ekwan

Dr. Ekwan is an Occupational therapist who from working a Regional Referral Hospital has risen to the rank of Principal Occupational Therapist at Mulago National Referral Hospital. Francis advanced in the field of psychology and Mastered in Neurology within Occupational therapy before finally taking a long-term research career at the University of Cape Town, South Africa focused on human occupation, enablement, and participation. He has unique knowledge and expertise that encompasses specialist rehabilitation services for patients experiencing body-activity function limitations (handling patients with brain injury, spine injury, hand injury, autism, and body defects). His most recent PhD addresses the fundamental issue of human life looking at occupation actualization. Francis has brought together health experts and researchers from the University of Cape Town, Mulago National Referral Hospital, and across the globe to tackle the problem of children with brain injury that often cause life loss or function loss and he recently co-created Four-star Model for Enablement and Participation; offering opportunity for attainment of defined Scale for Goal Setting (S4GS) and Score for Occupation (S4O).
